A slow food stop in a fast food world

This is the quintessential: "Secret Local Place" that I am forever searching for when I travel. One cannot live entirely on 5 star $100 dining experience when traveling, so I make a point to ferret out home-spun comfort food places to supplement when another "hot new" food adventure would send me into digestive coma. The Brick Oven Bistro puts out a simple scatch-made American cuisine that your grandmother would have served and then throws the unexpected at you like Kobe meat and cheese roll and sweet potato soup with star anise and gingered creme fraiche. I could go on, but my words would not do it justice. Like my wife said, "Its like getting a hug from the inside out".

Also I like where these people are coming from, " We like our food slow cooked not our planet." a slogan imparted on one of their menu boards.

Amazing Food with an atmosphere to match!

I almost gave this restaurant 5 stars, but settled for four simply because 5 stars should be almost unatainable, after all 5 stars is a perfect rating.  I would have given 4.8 if given the chance.

A pleasant atmosphere and extremely friendly and outgoing staff made for th eperfect dining experience at the Brick Oven Bistro.  The restaurant has amazing food (especially the soup).  As the turkey for my hot turkey sandwich was carved right in front of me, I do believe I drooled some on my shift watching my dream of a meal being made.

The restaurant supports local businesses, buys from local framers and uses renewable energy from a wind farm right here in Idaho.

The design and decor in the restaurant beg to be examined and respected.  Mandy of the paintings serve as the beginnings of great table conversations and my soda was refilled 3 times without my having to ask.  No placing an empty cup on the edge of the table, or noisily sucking melted ice through a straw just to get someone's attention, not here, not at the Brick Oven Bistro.

A near perfect meal matched only by what I am sure will come to be known as legendary hospitaqlity, service and attention to detail.

Pros: Everything

Cons: Nothing

Always my favorite stop

We've been going here since I was in college in 1988!!! This place is always my favorite stop if I am visiting friends in Boise.

Mashed potatoes with corn cravy and to-die-for turkey sandwhich...don't miss a milk-shake either! Excellent in our book!
